National Review Editor Rich Lowry Sparks Controversy Over Use of Racial Slur on Megyn Kelly Show
Lowry Denies Using Racial Slur, Claims Mispronunciation as Social Media Users Remain Unconvinced
Rich Lowry, editor of National Review, is facing backlash after allegedly using a racial slur during an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show Sunday night. While discussing immigration, Lowry appeared to say “Haitian N*****s” on air, causing immediate outrage online.
One X (formerly Twitter) user posted, “Having a hard time coming to any conclusion besides the obvious one about what Rich Lowry catches himself blurting out here,” sparking a heated debate. Lowry, however, quickly denied using the slur, claiming it was a simple mispronunciation. Fellow conservative commentator Andy McCarthy came to Lowry’s defense, stating, “Ridiculous. @richlowry (not tagged here, natch) obviously got crossed up between ‘immigrants’ (short i) and migrants (long i) — started mispronouncing ‘migrants’ with short i; instantly corrected himself with no embarrassment because it was patently a mispronunciation. Geez.”
Lowry himself addressed the incident, tweeting, “Yep, this is exactly what happened—I began to mispronounce the word ‘migrants’ and caught myself halfway through.”
Despite these explanations, many on social media are unconvinced, with users claiming that the slur was clearly audible. The controversy has added fuel to the ongoing debate over inflammatory rhetoric in conservative media, leaving Lowry and his defenders under scrutiny as the discussion continues online.
Using the worlds latest technology, we’ve slowed down the video which shows Lowry used the N-Word, or maybe it doesn’t. Maybe my ears are hearing it wrong and I’m the problem, not Rich. If that’s the case then It was my mistake for hearing it the way I did and for that I’d like to apologize to Rich Lowry and his friends.
